Willpower of 1000 Wildebeest

"Failure is not due to a lack of skill, but rather, a lack of will." - Unknown

Within the essence of each person lies the infinite flames of choice and freedom. It is this flame that separates mankind from the untamed beasts of land and sea, creatures driven by instinct and the natural desires of their being. The flame that separates mankind from the wild is the same energy that will allow them to transcend beyond new reaches. So what is this power and how does mankind harvest its full potential? This flame, WILLPOWER, is the quintessential core of achieving the limitless.

Mankind experiences the same temptations and instinctual desires as do all living creatures, but by chance or by blessing of the universe, mankind achieved the ability to resist the reptile within. It is through willpower, that mankind can do more than eat, sleep, and breed. Creations and discoveries of science, art, and literature all stem from the will to do more. In a world where mere survival is not even of the slightest burdens, the demand for willpower increases if man wishes to ascend. Thus, in this contemporary era of abundance and opportunity, skill is no longer a separator of success and failure, but rather, it is will!

But how does one know if they lack the required willpower to succeed? Giving into the everyday resistances are omens of weakness: struggling to wake in the morning, failing to resist the tempts of bread, inability to carry out preset goals, and weak focus. All people are born with the flame of will, but like a muscle, the will must be forged to grow. Like water, the need for will will flow down the stream of least resistance, for passion and motivation diminishes the need for will. Yet, if motivation is like the leaf that flows with the current, then will is pike that challenges the current.

One may ask why the will is needed if one were to follow their passions? Is it truly that essential for transcending?

Man has many dreams and to follow them may seem simple, but to carry out these dreams through the drudge of the everyday grind, man will succumb to the exhaustion that every warrior faces: the fatigue of monotony. It is no mystery that smoking kills, too much sugary or fatty food kills, exercise is healthy, and hard work is the spawn of all success. These are common knowledge and everyone is aware of all such things from the beginning. Yet, if we know what is right and what is healthy, then why isn't that enough for us to act better? Simply, the lack of will.

As mentioned before, the will is like muscle that must be chiseled, a lion that must be tamed, a flame  to be tempered. To practice the will, one must use the will. Cold showers. No matter how far one has traveled or endured, the act of submerging oneself into the ice will always be met with hesitation and resistance. Selective Fast. Depriving oneself of the less healthier but superior tasting gourmets of life is mountain too high for many. Consistency. Whether it be sleep schedule, training schedule, or anything; consistency is key. To fall and rise at the same time each passing day is a discipline within its own right.

Hypothetically speaking, after 10 years of resilient crafting of the will, one will have enough mental strength to split open a 4-story-steal-beamed-concrete-car garage into 1000 pieces only to reassemble them by hand. Realistically speaking, one will be able to take cold showers for the rest of their life just because their mind commands it. Further, one will no longer sleep because fatigue or eat because hungry; the body no longer controls these things. Eating and sleeping will only occur because the mind WILLS it.

This... is the willpower of 1000 wildebeests.
