Life's Gambit

I have noticed the drop in quality of my writing. The last one was a little more spontaneous and edit-less, but maybe it was for the better though. Now, I can write more freely and produce more. Quality over quantity they say? I was averaging one article a year... In plus, qui lire cette merde toute façon?

Future ME will read these articles and laugh. AHAAAHAH!

On to the topic, just saw Netflix's Queens Gambit series. Briefly, it was about an orphan-girl-chess-genius/prodigy who overcomes her drug addiction and PTSD to become a world champion. I know it was fictional, but DAMN it was inspirational. How can someone be so obsessed with their craft?

She spent her every waking moment improving her craft- reading chess books, practicing, watching replays. She bounced back from mad L's too. Geezer Boy from Russia crushed her twice before she finally usurped his throne. The point is that OBSESSION with her craft led her to success. When you can pour your whole heart and soul into something, then of course you will succeed. Whiplash and the Social Network were similar movies.

I went to study Biochem immediately after finishing that show and also downloaded LiChess for old times sake (you still play?). If only I could be so invested into something... Read biochemistry books in my free time? bruh. In all seriousness, its too broad; I need to find a niche. I need to find that topic, that calling, something to become obsessed to. So how do you find your calling? - you just know when you do.

Until then, I will invest all of my being into my current endeavors.

In terms of critiques, 'obsession' with your craft isn't always healthy. Queen's Gambit was never truly happy and addicted to drugs. Drummer boy from Whiplash lost all his friends and had a mental breakdown. Likewise, Zuckerberg from the Social Network screwed over his closest homie, and ironically, had no social skills. Yea, they did succeed at becoming the best in their field, but none were truly happy. A balance is needed. Shoot your shot, go for the moon YES! But, make sure you enjoy the process and always have someone to share it with.

Of all the gambits to take, sacrifice that temporary pleasure for long term success, but be careful, don't trade your people.
