State of Mind
DO you GET DEJA VU WHEN SHES WITH YOU? Good song
Lately, I feel like my state of mind is not the same as the past few months. Drive and energy is different. Not necessarily without motivation, but I just feel different. Trust me, my health has been optimal. That summer sleep spoiling me hahahaha (i'll try to fix my sleep schedule, this might be the source).
Regardless of whether sleep is the cause, it still brings up the fact that our mental state is controlled by chemicals and neurotransmitters. Well being and motivation are controlled by dopamine and serotonin. Excitement and relaxation by norepinephrine and acetylcholine. Love can be associated with oxytocin. It goes on, plenty more chemicals I could name, but is that all we are?
Are we simply a result of the current chemicals in our brains? Do I not have any autonomy over my thoughts and state of being!? Are my joys and my sufferings just the changing tides of dopamine?
I could do drugs to change my state of mind - endless bliss all the time, or I could find "genuine" happiness through the raw moments of life. Truthfully, what difference would it make? Either way the source of my joy would be from a release of the same chemicals. Even if it was happiness from within, I convince my self to be at peace, the result is the same. That FEELING of joy is still from dopamine and serotonin. Of course drugs are terrible as the screw up they natural endocrine system, but the point still stands that feelings = chemicals. Thus, it seems that we have no control over our current state of mind; it is simply a result of whatever neurotransmitter concoction that is currently in our head.
It seems... so artificial though. That rush of happiness when you hear your favorite song, dopamined boi. The exhilaration after playing your ass off and winning that basketball game, endorphins and adrenaline buddy. You are just experiencing the chemicals. When I took those pain meds after ACL surgery, HOLY FK I transformed from a crippled rick ross into Bradley Cooper from limitless. I still couldn't walk and was tired as fuck (northing changed physically), but I felt like a could rule the world. It's ALL IN YOUR HEAD?
Nah, I refuse to accept that. We are NOT JUST CHEMICALS. We are the AWARENESS that is able to feel whatever mental state is present, but the choice of how we act on it is always ours! If you had a fuck ton of cortisol in your system (probably get that checked out professionally), then yea you feel stressed but you can still control how you RESPOND to it. The next time you feel some type of way, just remember that it is just chemicals and it does not control you.
There are many things in life that we are uncertain about, but one thing is for sure and that is how we respond.
