Geralt of Rivia
I have just completed the Witcher series, and in all honesty, the plot was trash, setting trash, and the ending was especially garbagio. Overall, it was an excellent read. The characters were what carried this series. Geralt carried the series, literally and figuratively. I have learned quite a bit from this character.
Essentially, Geralt was humanities hero, but he was hated and discriminated against by all. A man who lived by a strict code of honor and values. He travels from village to village protecting all including those who scorn and spit on him due to his profession. He was a Witcher, a slayer of monsters and menaces to society. Fate gave him a daughter when he stumbled upon Ciri due to the law of surprise, but fate was also cruel as it took her away from him. Driven by ambitions and goals to save his daughter, Geralt traveled across the ends of the earth to find her.
This story brings into mind the question: Would you rather be a discredited hero and hated by all or be a villain and get praised like a hero?
A true hero is not motivated by praise or attention, for he is a hero because of the values he lives by. A hero would sacrifice his own reputation to protect those around him even if it meant being viewed as a mutant and traitor (Geralt of Rivia). Such inspiration and nobility.... I need a code to live by as well. I need goals and a purpose could drive me across the ends of the earth. Lets not get it wrong though, Geralt was no prince. He was of humble origins - raw and brutally honest. The man gave no shits and didn't take shit from anyone. Geralt was a man on a mission, and everything else was just extra. He stood up against and injustice and spoke for what he believed. A champion for the weak. He said what he felt, no fakeness, no bullshit.
Geralt's approach to difficulties and obstacles was to take them head on confronting the root cause of the problem. If he erred, then he would learn and try again. He gave no fucks, he was man with nothing to lose. All he had was his code and his honor.... until he had something to lose. Thus, he traveled across the world to protect it. I need to approach life with the same mindset. LETS GO!
