Uhtred
Just saw a couple episodes of the Last Kingdom the other day, and it was weirdly inspiring. It took place during the Viking Era of England where violence, honor, and chivalry were all amuck. The main character, Uhtred, is the heir of a Christian Warrior King, and he was kidnapped as a child and raised to be a Viking warrior. His new Viking father (who killed his real father) raised Uhtred as his own son but then another Viking killed his new Viking dad and put their village to the torch. Uhtred luckily escaped the fiery fate and thus... the story begins.
Uhtred is now a young and fearless warrior with nothing (no responsibility or belongings other than his name), but he is hated by the Vikings and shunned by his Christian origins. What makes this story interesting is ... UHTRED is an IDIOT LOLLLL. The odds are never in his favor, and his stubbornness makes life much more of an ordeal. But then why do we root for him so much...?
The man has his goals, his honor, and his people - he gives no shts about anything else. He values his word (for the most part) and lives by a code. We root for Uhtred because he does what he wants and is willing to risk all his hard work for something higher (but the universe is against him, he fails... and repeats). Standing up for what you believe and taking risk driven by ambition - we respect that no matter how hard one fails.
Future me - today is the day you started risking it all. Be like Uhtred. Say what you feel and do what you please. Find something greater than yourself to live by (a goal, a code, honor etc.) and stand up for what you believe in.
