Invisible Council
Update: First off... CONGRATZ to the lil bro! May you accomplish great things in life and have the strength to grow even stronger! (forgot your gift at home oops haha)You've grown throughout the years; the world is changing you, I can see it. As you enter the world (full of life but in a malleable state), life can be tough at times, but I hope it will not defeat your unrelenting spirit and energy (I listen to Welcome to the Black Parade in your honor). Never grow bitter and never despair. Your fam is always here with open arms.
I have just finished reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (only 30% was read, 70% was audio book kekw). The book was written back in the pre-2000s self-improvement type and was quite difficult to read. Some of the info was outdated or no longer effective; Napoleon Hill also went a bit overboard with the manifestation and subconscious programming ideas (reminded me of The Alchemist vibes). [3.5/5 read]
One topic stuck with me though - I'll be implementing it into my life immediately - is his concept of using the imaginary council to mold his character. The idea is that we select a council of heroes or role models (contemporary or historical) that we converse with daily. It's almost like a what-would-Jesus-do type mentality except with a whole council of people and full blown discussions about life instead of a single choice. In Napoleon Hill's case:
"Long before I had ever written a line for publication, or endeavored to deliver a speech in public, I followed the habit of reshaping my own character, by trying to imitate the nine men whose lives and life-works had been most impressive to me. These nine men were, Emerson, Paine, Edison, Darwin, Lincoln, Burbank, Napoleon, Ford, and Carnegie. Every night, over a long period of years, I held an imaginary Council meeting with this group whom I called my “Invisible Counselors.”
Theoretically, one's character will start to shift to resemble those that they have surrounded themselves with. I will test this theory with my own council! (so far Ali Abdaal, Kobe, Dr. JN, and uhhhh... time to start reading biographies LOL)
